Ragdoll cats have gained a reputation for being the most adorable cats and they are particularly affectionate. Hence, it is not surprising why you would love to get one of these and take care of it. These are the kind of cats that you would love to see when you arrive at home and you want warmth.
As much as these cats are adorable, there are some reasons why you may not want to see them in your home. Here are some of the reasons why ragdoll cats can be such a pain to live with.
Ragdolls follow you all the time
Ragdoll cats are not like other cat breeds in the sense that they are so affectionate. Although they can have other pursuits and games, the best part of their day is tailing you. These cats are highly loving animals and they like staying close to their owner.
While this may seem adorable, it can be quite wearisome at times especially if you are the type of person who wants to be left alone too.
They can cause allergic reactions
Ragdolls have no undercoat which makes it easier to clean up after them. However, they can still trigger allergic reactions. If you are sensitive to fur and you tend to sneeze or feel bad when exposed to cat hair, then it may be hard to live with any other cat, ragdoll or not.
There’s a myth that people with allergies won’t have problems when living with ragdolls but there’s no truth to this. The challenges you will be facing is the same whether it’s a ragdoll cat or not.
You need to keep them indoors
If you love going in and out of the house all the time, your cat may slip out and it is one of the worst things that can happen to them. Ragdoll cats are best kept as indoor cats because they are too trusting and don’t have the sharpest survival skills. Compared to other cats they also tend to be clumsier so when you leave near the road where cars could accidentally hit your cat, you should take more care that your cat couldn’t slip out.
During the times when you need to take out this cat, you need to place it on a leash. You should never keep it out of your sight since they can be in big trouble when you don’t pay attention to them.
They need more love and care
Although every cat can survive as long as they have food and water and you can just buy an automatic pet feeder and a cat water fountain, they would need more than that. Having this cat means quite a large devotion on your part since they are the type of cats that crave attention. Much like toddlers, ragdolls would feel ignored if you leave them behind all the time.
If you have a fast-paced life and you are constantly on the go leaving these cats to fend for themselves with only an automatic pet feeder for company would be cruel.
They are not mousers
If there are mice in your home and you want to get rid of these animals, hence you bought a cat then you may have adopted or purchased the wrong kind. Ragdoll cats are not too interested in going after mice since ragdolls are not mousers by nature. These are the type of cats who would let those mice live.
Ragdolls need regular checkups
Although pretty much all cats need to make their trip to the vet’s office, ragdolls may need to do it more. These cats can be prone to certain illnesses that may be genetic in nature. It is vital to know if they have this mutated gene or not because it could affect their lifespan and overall health.
Although it may hurt to know that your beloved pet’s life has a deadline, if it does have the mutated gene, it’s easier to address issues if you know of them beforehand.
They can take up a lot of your time
Ragdoll cats are just too cute, when they are around, you could forget that you have another appointment. When they collapse on your lap, it just feels wrong if you get up and go on with your life when they want some cuddle time. If this is the case, you may find yourself late for an appointment or you get things done later than you should.

They love you unconditionally and you miss them when you are away
