Why vaccination?

If you have a pet and want to have a safe relationship with your pet you must vaccinate your pet as soon as possible. Vaccines protect you and your pets from different contagious and zoonotic diseases. There are some deadly disease which are preventable by applying appropriate vaccination schedule. So, after the parturition and birth of young puppies and kittens, the first and most important thing is to vaccinate them. If the dam/mother was being vaccinated regularly, she will definitely transfer some antibiotics to the babies but these antibodies provide immunity for first few weeks.

Important Vaccines for Dogs:

1. Rabies
2. Canine Distemper
3. Leptospira  (Leptospira canicola & Leptospira icterohaemorragiae)
4. Parvo-virus
5. Kennel cough
6. Canine Adenovirus

Following vaccines are available in market for Dogs. There are different companies selling vaccines with different trade names but we are mentioning most commonly available vaccines.

• Rabisin

Rabicin is actually mono-valent vaccine for rabies and this vaccine is best effective against rabies/lyssa virus.

• Hexadog

Hexados is actually a polyvalent vaccine and it is effective against following 6 viruses:

• Lyophilized TRIVIROVAX
• Canine Adenovirus Type 2,
• Canine Parvovirus,
• Rabies,
• Leptospira canicola and Leptospira icterohaemorragica.
• Euricane

It’s available in different forms Eurican DHPPI2 (against adenovirus, plague, enteritis, parainfluenza virus) + Eurican L (against leptospirosis type Canicola ecterohemorragica) or Eurican RL (rabies and 2 types of leptospirosis).

Cats must be vaccinated for the following diseases

1. Rabies
2. Feline parvo-virus
3. Feline calci Virus
4. Feline rhinotracheitis virus
5. Feline distemper Virus
6. Feline herper virus
7. Feline panleukopenia Virus

Following vaccines are available in market for Cats:

• Felovac

An effective vaccine against Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus, Feline calicivirus, Feline Panleucopenia Virus, Chlamydia psittaci and Feline leukaemia virus.

• Rabisin

This vaccine is best effective against rabies virus.

Your pet should be vaccinated at the age of 6 weeks. If must be noted that vaccination is done after 11 days of deworming.

In kittens, the first deworming should be done at 3 weeks of age to protect the humans in contact the best. Vaccines for herpes, calici, and panleukopenia start at 6 – 9 weeks of age and repeat every 3 weeks until 16 weeks of age when the rabies is given.

Vaccination Schedule

There are different people following different vaccination schedules. Recommended vaccination schedules are also mentioned on dose manuals. General schedule of vaccination is as follows:

 

 

• De-worming at the age of 40 days/6 weeks.
• First shot of vaccine after 10 days of de-worming. (at the age of 50days)
• Second shot of vaccine after 21 days of 1^st shot.
• Third shot of vaccine after 21 days of 2^nd shot.
• Fourth shot of vaccine after 21 days of 3^rd shot.
• Then annual booster dose is given every year.
